Exercise and Fitness Tips...

When considering an exercise or fitness program, it could be a good idea to check with your doctor before starting to make sure it is right for you and that you don't do any damage to your body if you have any special considerations (injuries, heart conditions, diabetes, etc).

  • You've been diagnosed with heart problems, high blood pressure or other medical conditions
  • You've been sedentary for over a year
  • If you're over 65 and don't currently exercise
  • You're pregnant
  • You have diabetes
  • You ever experience chest pains, dizziness or fainting spells
  • You're recovering from an injury or illness
  • You have a diagnosed medical condition or illness

It may not be necessary for everyone to check with their doctor before starting a new exercise program, but it doesn't hurt. Use your own judgement as to whether you see your doctor or not. It may be more important if you haven't done much exercise in a while.

Another thing to think about when going into an exercise program is to make sure you have appropriate clothing and footwear. Wearing the wrong footwear can be bad and cause damage to your body. Getting shoes that are designed for running for example, are a great idea. Light clothing is good, like a t-shirt and shorts, to make sure you don't get uncomfortable or overheat.

Make sure you consider some of these things before beginning any exercise program, because the last thing you want is to get an injury while trying to get fit.
